The man behind a graphic novel telling the story of The Co-operative Movement will be on the Isle of Man to meet readers in Douglas this week.
Cartoonist Polyp, whose work The Co-operative Revolution: A Graphic Novel, traces the movement from its foundation by the Rochdale Pioneers in the mid 19th century, will be at the Jabberwocky Cafe, next to The Co-operative food store in Duke Street, from 7pm on Thursday, 14 November.
He will be giving a talk and answering questions at the free event, organised by The Co-operative Membership.
The graphic novel by Polyp, real name Paul Fitzgerald, was published in 2012 as part of the celebrations to mark the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives.
Gillian Hannah, of The Co-operative’s Membership team for the Isle of Man, said: “Polyp’s graphic novel is a vivid showcase of the past, present and imagined future of the Co-operative Movement, that has grown to become to most successful grassroots campaign the world has seen.
“This is a great opportunity for fans of graphic novels, readers of The Co-operative Revolution: A Graphic Novel, or anyone with an interest in The Co-operative Movement, to meet the talented cartoonist in an informal setting.”
The event is free, but places can be booked by emailing kim.morrow@co-operative.coop or calling 02893 357500.
