A report on the recent public consultation into names for the new House of Keys constituencies has been published - with few surprises.
Twelve equal constituencies of two seats each are due to be created following the recommendations of the Boundary Review Committee which were agreed by Tynwald in June.
The new constituencies will replace the current mixture of one, two and three seat constituencies.
The consultation received just 33 responses, but there was no clear majority in favour of alternatives to the names suggested by the Committee in its final report . . and so the Council of Ministers has agreed these names should be used.
The Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, has now been approved by COMIN for introduction into the House of Keys and Legislative Council.
The names will therefore be:
Ayre and Michael
Douglas Central (based on the polling districts of Albany, Ballabrooie, Eastfield, Quay, St George’s, Somerset and Tynwald, plus part of Garden City)
Douglas North (Glencrutchery, Willaston and most of Garden City)
Douglas West (Anagh Coar, Ballaughton and Pulrose)
Douglas East (Crescent, Derby, St Ninian's, Strand, Windsor)
Garff will now include the current Garff constituency plus Onchan parish and Howstrake.
Glenfaba and Peel become one.
Malew, Arbory and Castletown will be, as the name suggests, the current Castletown constituency plus Malew and Arbory.
Middle will now include Santon.
Onchan will be the current Onchan constituency minus Onchan parish and Howstrake.
Ramsey remains as is and Rushen, which will be the current Rushen minus Arbory
