An event offering local residents the chance to find out more about careers and employment opportunities in the Isle of Man is being held at the Villa Marina, Douglas on Tuesday 26th November between 9am and 7pm.
Employment and Skills 2013 is a free event being hosted by the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Education and Children. It will provide an ideal opportunity for job seekers and those considering careers options to meet with employers from a variety of sectors.
Tony Wild MLC the Department of Economic Development’s Political Member with responsibility for Employment and Skills and a Political Member of the Department of Education and Children commented:
‘The event should be attended by anyone who is looking for employment or considering a career change. Additionally both Departments are committed to helping young people find employment as outlined as a Government’s priority in the Agenda for Change in Our Economy document.
‘Employment and Skills 2013 is an important part of a wider package of support that Government offers to help people understand the career options available to them, as well as encouraging those currently without work find suitable employment. For example we have had over 300 people participate in our on-going Work Placement programmes with 55% of clients finding employment to date.
‘The event presents an ideal opportunity to talk directly to a wide range of local employers and find out what they expect from job applicants, the vacancies currently available and what opportunities are likely to become available in the future.’
The event represents the Isle of Man’s largest annual gathering of local employers and will feature representatives from a wide range of business sectors such as Construction, Engineering, Retail, IT, Financial Services, Accountancy, Law and the Armed Forces.
There will also be a range of services for visitors to take advantage of including help with CV writing, interview skills and job search techniques. There will also be the opportunity to talk to a range of organisations that provide training.
High-profile motivational speaker John Loughton will be attending the event to present to delegates attending. He rose to prominence when he won TV’s Big Brother Celebrity Hijack in 2008 and has visited the Island several times since then.
Booking is not required and everyone is welcome.
