by isleofman.com 21st November 2013
A young female shop assistant was left upset and scared after a local convenience store was targeted last night.

The incident took place at Lower Newby’s, Glen Falcon Road, Douglas around 9:40pm on Wednesday 20th November 2013, when a man entered the shop and demanded that the female staff member hand over cash from the till, before leaving the store. The female member of staff was understandably left upset and shaken by the ordeal.

The suspect is described as a male, average height and build, with possibly an eastern European accent and wearing a dark hooded top and jogging bottoms.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area during the evening or recalls seeing anyone who matches the description of the suspect entering the shop or loitering around the area during the evening.

Detective Constable Karl Breadner said ‘This is a rare incident that has occurred on the Island and the Police are making a number of enquiries in order to identify the offender. As always we do ask for the public to assist the Police and if you have any information which could lead to the identification of the suspect please contact Police Headquarters on 631212 or confidentially Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
