New facilities wanted for community farm

by isleofman.com 21st November 2013

The Children’s Centre says it wants to expand its community farm facility in Santon.

The charity, based in Douglas, has applied for permission to put two poly tunnels and two mobile buildings at Walberry Farm on the Old Castletown Road.

In its application the Children’s Centre says it bought an extra plot of land earlier this year to provide a classroom, kitchen, toilet, and packing room for the farm.

It also hopes to improve the farm’s provision for the disabled community, as well as have more summer grazing for large animals.

In the application, the charity says it needs to provide more indoor space for the farm’s visitors when the weather is bad.

And it says it eventually wants to have a building which wheelchair users can get into via hard standing and paths.

The proposed packing room would be used to pack produce such as eggs and vegetables.
