Police issued update following convenience store incident

Following a press release issued yesterday regarding an incident that took place at about 9.40pm on Wednesday 20th November 2013 at Lower Newby’s, Glen Falcon Road, Douglas, the Police would like to release the following further information.  
 
A further description of the male suspect has been provided. 
 
The suspect is described as around 5’10” in height, of average build, wearing a light coloured coat over a dark hooded top.  The male was also wearing dark blue tracksuit bottoms and a balaclava.  The male was described as having a deep voice with an eastern European accent.
 
A ‘Taser’ type electric stun device was used to threaten the female shop assistant into handing over a quantity of money.
 
Following the assault the shop assistant was treated for shock before being released from hospital.
 
Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area during the evening, in particular a lady who was in the shop just before the incident, who had used the ATM.
 
Police are also looking to speak to anyone who recalls seeing anyone who matches the description of the suspect entering the shop or loitering around the area during the evening. 
 
Detective Constable Karl Breadner said ‘We would again like to re-iterate that this is a rare incident that has occurred on the Island and the Police are making a number of enquiries in order to identify the offender.  As always we do ask for the public to assist the Police and if you have any information which could lead to the identification of the suspect please contact Police Headquarters on 631212 or confidentially Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
