Isle of Man Creamery Hat-Trick at World Cheese Awards

by isleofman.com 29th November 2013

Cheese made by Isle of Man Creamery won three major prizes at the World Cheese Awards which were judged at the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham on Wednesday 27th November. The Awards attract more than 2500 entries from over 34 countries. The Manx Award winners were:

*  Isle of Man Creamery Hint of Chilli Mature Cheddar – Silver in the hard pressed cheddar with additive category
*  Isle of Man Creamery Extra Mature Cheddar – Bronze in the Extra mature block cheddar category
*  Isle of Man Creamery Cracked Peppercorn Mature Cheddar – Bronze in the hard pressed cheddar with additive category

The judges commented that all of the cheeses with herbs and spices made by Isle of Man Creamery use 12 month old mature cheddar as the base cheese. This means that the creamy, full flavour of the cheese perfectly balances the flavour of the ingredients rather than the overall flavour being dominated by the ingredient.

The Extra Mature Cheddar has been selling well in Spain as well as in the UK. This cheese is matured for a couple of extra months and usually sold at 14 months old, giving it a slightly more intense flavour than the mature cheddar.

Managing Director of Isle of Man Creamery said "we are fortunate in having a highly committed team including Andy Thornton, Martin Barber and Damien Neeson, whose attention to detail ensures that we have a consistently high quality of product right across our range. This consistency is borne out by the performance of our products at the major cheese competitions as well as the interest in our products from customers from Foxdale to Florida. I am delighted for the team at the Creamery as well as for our dairy farmers that we have won these Awards".
