Barclays Wealth and Investment Management has doubled the funds raised at a fun run for Manx Cancer Help.
The “Marathong” saw over 80 competitors race from outside the Barclays branch on Victoria Street around the quay in Douglas. Through sponsorship and donations, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management raised ?3210.10, bringing the total raised by all competitors to ?6000.
Competitors dressed in underpants and fancy dress were presented spot prizes for jazziest pants and best dressed teams. Manx Cancer Help Patron and double Superbike World Champion, James Toseland took part in the Marathong, much to the delight of his fans.
Ally Martin, Manx Cancer Help Fundraising Co-ordinator, said “The Marathong was a brilliant success for Manx Cancer Help and raised a fantastic amount of money, which, in turn, allows us to help our clients and increase the support offered. We are currently planning the 2014 Marathong, and hope to have even more competitors.”

Also, a special thank you to G4S, Energy FM, Douglas Development Partnership, Isle of Man Constabulary and all those who entered the event, all of which helped make the Marathong a huge success.”
Charity Committee Chairman Aidan Doherty, Head of Business Banking at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in the Isle of Man, added “The Marathong marked the end of a cancer awareness week at Barclays, there were various presentations and talks about cancer and cancer related topics that were open to all employees.”

Manx Cancer Help provides a range of specialist support for anyone whose life has been affected by cancer. This ranges from specialist psychological interventions from a range of highly qualified and registered therapists to an informal drop in day which provides informal support, friendship, a range of advice and also useful workshops and a range of supportive literature.
