Kestrel Insurance offers advice to Island residents and flood victims

by isleofman.com 5th February 2014

Flooding can have a devastating effect financially and emotionally on anyone who has been directly impacted by the recent tidal surges and localised flooding that have breached the Island, but with the right insurance and provider you can have at least some peace of mind that someone is here to help.

With almost 25-years serving the Island, Kestrel Insurance has a deep understanding of areas that can often be left vulnerable to adverse weather conditions, including flooding, and as a result we make it our priority to tailor-make an insurance policy for each and every home and business client as best as we can.

Kestrel Insurance Director, James O’Connor said, “It is vital that home and business owners on the Island remain vigilant and aware of up-to-date weather warnings and take action to lessen the impact as much as possible.  With no one disputing the fact more tidal surges and flooding could be on its way to the Isle of Man, I have put together a five point advice plan for anyone worried about their assets during this uncertain time.”

· Make sure you remain up-to-date and aware of any adverse weather forecasts through local news and social media;
· Protect your assets as best as you can to try and minimise loss and damage;
· Check your insurance policy to make sure that it is well within date and take out a renewal if necessary, but;
· Inform your insurance provider if your home or business is located within a high risk flood area. Failure to do so could invalidate a claim;
· Inform your insurer of any loss as soon as it is possible to do so.

Everyone has been taken aback by the latest rounds of flooding, and with this in mind Kestrel Insurance would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all of the emergency services who have worked tirelessly since the first floods in January, to make sure any damage to home and business owners will be as minimal as possible.
