A former clerk of Braddan Commissioners has lost his long-running legal case for wrongful dismissal.
Charles Lewin was dismissed in 2007 for gross misconduct, and launched his action in 2009, seeking damages and loss of pension rights which he claimed were in excess of ?1 million.
However in the High Court yesterday the case was struck out by Deemster Christie.
Braddan Commissioners say they had no option but to defend Mr Lewin's unjustified claim, but it has left them with legal costs in excess of ?250,000.
They now intend to try and recover the costs from Mr Lewin, and have lodged a counter-claim against him for what they describe as "a substantial sum"
The local authority says the removal of this liability played a part in the its 6p rate reduction announced last week.
It's not yet known if Mr Lewin will appeal the decision.
