Commissioners to pursue former clerk for ?250,000 legal costs

by isleofman.com 10th February 2014

The chairman of Braddan Commissioners says they will "robustly pursue" former clerk Charles Lewin for a quarter of million pounds in legal costs.
Andrew Jessopp was speaking after Mr Lewin's long-running case for wrongful dismissal by the commissioners was struck out by Deemster Christie at the High Courts.
He had been seeking damages and loss of pension rights claimed to be in excess of a million pounds, after being dismissed by the local authority in 2007 for gross misconduct.
Mr Jessopp says the commissioners have always felt they had a justified claim in dismissing Mr Lewin.
The figure of a million pounds had never been properly quantified, and they'd had no choice but to defend the claim: (play audio)
Mr Lewin has six weeks in which to appeal the decision by the courts.
