Don't let Irvings distract you, jury told

by isleofman.com 11th February 2014
A jury’s been told to cast aside any personal views about a former Island business and its owners.

Today, at the trial of the Island's Attorney General, senior prosecutor Peter Wright QC told the court that the case before them was not about the solvency or otherwise of Street Heritage, nor the business practices of Jonathan and Jamie Irving.

And he said any efforts made to discredit the Irvings shouldn’t distract from the fact the defendant ‘deliberately misled’ the court at the winding-up of the company in February 2010.

Stephen Harding insists he did not knowingly or recklessly mislead the court at the winding-up hearing and has described an error of judgment he made as a ‘deep regret in a long career’.

He denies perjury and acting against public justice.

The defence will continue its summing up of the case tomorrow morning.
