Manx National Heritage legacy

by isleofman.com 12th February 2014

A project is being launched with the aim of building relationships between old and young in the community.

A heritage garden will be created in the grounds of Arbory School in memory of the late John 'Donny' Collister, a Colby resident and former Manx Regiment member who died in 2007 at the age of 93 and left his wartime memorabilia and a large sum of money to Manx National Heritage.

A public consultation was held as to how the money should be distributed. Chairman of the Manx Musuem and National Trust, Tony Pass, and director of MNH Edmund Southworth will present ?38,000 to the school later this month to launch the project.

A spokesman said the aim of the project was to develop traditional skills and use the knowledge and experience of local people in the community, while developing a sense of pride and place in young people. It could lead to an oral history project. It's expected the garden will take three years to create and will have a large educational aspect.
