Events across the Isle of Man have been cancelled ahead of storm force conditions this evening.
And police have issued a warning to the public about the extreme weather conditions.
Inspector Mark Britton said: 'There is a likelihood of structural damage and travel disruption which may be caused by the winds. Residents are advised to take precautions where they are able to. Take care on the roads during the early evening, allow extra time for your journey, reduce their speed and leave greater distances between themselves and other vehicles. They are also warned to consider the likelihood that there will be standing water, floods and other debris on the roads.'
The Department of Education says that due to the severe weather forecast, all its out-of-hours activities including youth clubs and parents' evenings, are being cancelled or postponed.
A spokesman said: 'Those who have leased schools for this evening are being contacted but anyone with queries should ring 685820. Parents' evenings are in the process of being postponed and schools will be in touch with parents over revised dates. Evening classes run by the Isle of Man College island-wide are cancelled.'
Steam Packet sailings have been cancelled and there's expected to be disruption to flights at Ronaldsway airport. But the Isle of Man is expected to miss the worst of the weather, with 100 mph gusts predicted off the coast of Wales and the north west of England.
The Isle of Man met office says tonight's weather event is 'significant'. Gusts of more than 70 mph are expected and these wind speeds are strong enough to bring down trees and cause structural damage. The next high tide is around 10pm and five metre high waves are expected to cause overspilling on proms and harbours.
