Group predicts further squeeze on ratepayers

by isleofman.com 17th February 2014
A group representing local authorities in the Island says government has failed to explain to the public why the toilet tax is necessary.
Chairman of the Municipal Association David Talbot has described outrage over the ?50-per-household levy as 'understandable' - because it will affect rich and poor alike no matter what size of property or a person's ability to pay.
The charge follows Treasury's decision to withdraw its subsidy to the Water Authority for sewage disposal.
Charges are expected to rise each year until 'user pays all'.
Mr Talbot fears more costs currently met from income tax will be handed on to ratepayers by the new public utilities authority: Clip 1
