MHK feels justified by report into Sefton Group

by isleofman.com 17th February 2014
An MHK who has regularly questioned the validity of the Sefton bailout says she feels justified by the findings of a report into the deal.

Tynwald’s scrutiny committee assessed the Manx government's ?4.5 million support package for the Sefton Group and its report goes to Tynwald this week.

It concluded government did act reasonably in helping keep the business going and that there was a 'substantial' risk many jobs would be lost if the group had failed.

However, it says a number of serious issues should be reviewed before financial support is given in similar circumstances in future.

South Douglas member Kate Beecroft says that includes protecting local suppliers who did business with the Sefton Group.Clip 1
