Hospital needs 'executive leadership'

by isleofman.com 17th February 2014

Changes at the top at Noble's Hospital have been approved by the Council of Ministers.

A report by independent consultants says a hospital providing acute health care with well over a thousand staff and annual running costs of ?80million needs executive leadership instead of being managed as a division of a department.

A new framework will be created, with a hospital managing director reporting to a governing board. The board would oversee the running of the hospital and be accountable to the Health Minister. The Council of Ministers says there should not be any extra cost in implementing the new management system.

Chief Minister Allan Bell said pressures on the hospital management had been considerable, not helped by a structure that was no longer adequate to meet modern demands. He believes the changes 'should help to reinforce public confidence'.
