The annual Chairman's cup was played this Tuesday, 25th February, and there was a great turn out of support for the fantastic Chairman Mac MacDonald.
The Chairman's cup is a competition brought in last year with the rules being one representative from each team this decided by ways of an in-house knock out.
First game on was Jamie Kelly ( Plough B ) v Rob Wheatley ( RAOB ). Rob is not the first game anyone wants in a singles comp but Robs darts unfortunately didn't show as Jamie cruised into the quarters 2-0.
Quarter finals:
John Taylor ( Swan ) v Alan Young ( Bar Logo )
This game could have been a sticky one for Alan as JT had showed in the Swan's knock-out what he can do but again his darts didn't turn up and Alan cruised through with 3 tons and a 70 finish.
Roy Dunlop ( Mitre ) v Mike Walsh ( Commie )
This was a great game between two of the star men this year. Roy took it 2-1 as Mick missed the double 10 ton plus scores between them in this one.
Phil Teare ( Commie Raven ) v Jay Smith ( Stanley )
Phil has not been well recently and it showed but take nothing away from the 19's kid Jay Smith proved back in December when he beat Alan Young that he can beat anyone on his day. Jay taking this 2-0.
Jamie Kelly ( Plough B ) v Geoff Howland ( Plough A )
On paper the game of the tournament but again another man struggling on the Swan throw as Geoff got a leg but never got going. Jamie booking his semi final spot with 6 tons 93 finish and a 18 dart leg.
Semi finals:
Alan Young v Roy Dunlop
Another good game on paper and this didn't disappoint going down to the wire but Alan hit the winning double.
Jamie Kelly v Jay Smith
Jay playing out of his skin but couldn't do enough to pip Jamie to the line , Jamie won 2-1 with the help of 4 tons one being a 106 finish.
Final:
You could only really put Geoff into the same bracket as these pair this year as they have been fantastic all season. Best of 5 legs, and what a final, absolutely brilliant darts with Alan hitting 4 x 100 , 135 , 2 x 140 and an 18 darter. Jamie's hall 4 x 100 , and a 140. Alan hitting the doubles when it mattered and taking the cup and title back to Douglas with him.
Thanks to Trevor from the Swan, Emma for her hard work and happy smiling face as always behind the bar and Geoff Watson who recorded all the scores.
Next week sees a set of fixtures then the Plough-sponsored 3-a-side.
