Union head brands waste comments 'misleading'

by isleofman.com 1st March 2014
The regional officer for the Unite union on the Island has written to members of the House of Keys over what he believes are misleading statements about waste management.
Eric Holmes highlights several points, made by services officer for the Department of Infrastructure, John Wrigley, which he says are incorrect.
He states comparing the Island against the UK with regard to waste management isn't comparing like with like.
Douglas Council has already branded a government consultation on waste management ‘flawed’.
The department is consulting on ways of trying to find more effective ways of collecting and disposing of waste on the Island.
Mr Holmes says Mr Wrigley's proposals would put private sector companies out of business and make public sector companies redundant.
He adds waste collection on the Island is a statute of local authorities and not government and the proposals would therefore require changes to legislation.
