The Young Magicians of Mann will be opening a ‘school’ on the afternoon of Sunday, 23rd March at the Youth Arts Centre in Douglas. Scoill Duggery is the title of their annual show this year, staged in conjunction with the Youth Service, and it promises to be quite an education. The magic club for 11 to 18 year olds has been staging shows at the Centre since 1987, and is organized by Mike Clague, Lexi Watterson and Paul Martin – all members of The Magic Circle and the Magicians of Mann.
Mike explained “We’ve held spooky shows, pirate shows, clown shows and variety shows with no special theme. This year our members decided that they liked the idea of putting on a magic show with a school theme. We’re very excited, and it’s coming together really well.” He added “Magic is ‘cool’ at the moment, partly thanks to TV celebrities such as Dynamo, Troy and Penn and Teller. Magic on television is one thing, but you can’t beat a live magic show and we can guarantee there won’t be any camera tricks or post-show editing! The club has more members than ever, which gives us a great opportunity to include fantastic illusions and individual mysteries. School was never like this!”
Tickets for the show are available from the Youth Office, tel. 686057 during office hours, and messages can be left on 878328. All tickets cost ?5. Previous shows have all sold out, so booking is advisable as tickets may not be available of the door.
The Young Magicians of Mann meet at the Youth Arts Centre in Douglas on Wednesday evenings during term time, and further information can be found on their website www.ymom.info.
