Boost for Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association

by isleofman.com 4th March 2014

The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association has been given a cash injection by Simcocks after enterprising staff were given a ?10 note and asked to put the money to work to raise more cash.

The Douglas-based law practice adopted the charity in 2013 and chief executive Phil Games recently presented them with a cheque for ?2232.

Mr Games said: “I want to say a big thank you to all of our staff for their hard work. Simcocks has some very creative and entrepreneurial members of staff who had a great deal of fun coming up with some really innovative, fundraising ideas.

“The money was raised in a variety of ways including cake making, buying and selling bracelets, taking part in the Parish Walk, knitting, acquiring chickens and selling the eggs, the making and selling of aromatherapy products, jam making, running an exercise class, holding a pamper party and taking part in a car boot sale. It was a fantastic effort by a lot of people and we hope our contribution helps such a worthwhile group.”

Each year staff at Simcocks choose a different Isle of Man-based charity to adopt and last year Simcocks particularly wanted to support the Association’s Staywell Clinic which provides cervical screening for women out of normal working hours at Nobles Hospital.

Malcolm Clague, President of the IOM Anti-Cancer Association said: “I would like to add my thanks on behalf of IOMACA for the committment the staff at Simcocks demonstrated in raising funds for the Staywell Clinic at Noble's Hospital, run for the past 50 years by IOMACA. I was most impressed by the many and varied ways each member of staff used to turn their ?10 into a very impressive total of ?2232.”
