Women at 3FM are taking over the airwaves in celebration of International Women’s Day on the 8th March.
On the same day for more than a century, millions of people around the world have come together to mark International Women’s Day; putting the social, political, and economic achievements of women centre stage.
Feeling that the commemoration is important here in the Island too, 3FM’s female collective are coming out in force to dominate the stations’ airspace in tribute to the day – an event sponsored by the charming Pandora.
The full day’s programming has a line up of female presenters and news readers; kicking off with Christy DeHaven in the morning, giving us the top ten at 10am of the greatest all-female tracks.
Next up is Nicola J from midday, playing an A-Z of girls in music.
Zoe Guilford will then be taking over the airwaves with some of the most renowned Island-based women in business, politics and sport; like Claire Milne; Partner at Appleby Isle of Man, Anne Couper Woods; Director of IQE and the President of Tynwald herself, Mrs Claire Christian MLC - who will give listeners the lowdown on their accomplishments and pick favourite artists and songs to go on air.
From 7pm, the station’s newest member, Helen McKenna, will be bringing in the Evening Show, and Liz Peters will close International Women's Day 2014 on 3FM with Easy Rock from 10pm.
As much as things have changed for women since the lives of women from thousands of years ago, much still needs to be refashioned in order for us to keep pace with the future.
This year’s theme is ‘Inspiring Change’. It calls attention to challenging the status quo for women's equality and vigilance in inspiring positive change.
It’s all about the greater awareness of women’s equality; honouring women in senior leadership roles, spotlighting equal recognition of women in the arts, supporting the growth of Island-based women-owned businesses and recognising Manx women in sport.
International Women’s Day encourages advocacy for women's advancement everywhere in every way, and is a day that 3FM is proud to take part in.
