Get employed.im

by isleofman.com 5th March 2014

Finding a job has just got that much easier thanks to a new addition to employed.im, the website designed to be a one-stop shop for careers and employment on the Isle of Man.

PDMS, the software engineering company which designed the website, has teamed up with local company The Needle to introduce an innovative video feature to employed.im.

Candidates who have signed up to employed.im can now record themselves answering interview-style questions which can be played back to improve their performance.  Their answers to the interview questions are queued on screen and the video can be re-recorded until candidates are happy with their video statement.

Candidates can choose to make their video statement visible to employers, allowing employers to gain a far more rounded impression of them than a CV typically presents, bringing their application to life and enhancing a candidate’s hopes of securing a face-to-face interview. Whilst this feature benefits the candidates, it is also especially useful for employers recruiting at the pre-interview stage.

However candidates can also choose to keep their video private and use it as a training tool for real life interviews.  Likewise, there is the option to make video statements public to both employers and other candidates, so candidates can ask their friends and family to watch their video and give them their feedback.

Chris Gledhill, managing director of PDMS, commented: “The video tool allows candidates to see how they look, sound and respond in an interview, which will enable them eradicate any possible flaws and make the most of their strengths.  There is no other jobs service feature like this in the Isle of Man and it’s totally free.  It’s an excellent platform for individuals to really take control of their careers and employment opportunities on the Isle of Man.”

Christine Tautari, from The Needle, added: “Video interviews have many uses, from training to job applications. The integration of our core video technology with employed.im has opened up an excellent opportunity for job seekers on the island, to be the first to use this state of the art video technology which is fast becoming a globally accepted, cost effective way for job seekers to promote their presentation skills, competencies and communication skills to employers. Employed.im also provides school leavers with an introduction to new technologies being used by recruiters in the current jobs market. We look forward to more and more people using the video interview statement over the coming months”.

Launched late last year, employed.im provides guidance on career-related issues for anybody seeking advice - from students and school leavers through to people considering a mid-career change or a return to work. Members can also use the website to manage their CVs, application forms and connect to potential employers.
