Appeal after safety fencing damaged at Tholt-Y-Will

by isleofman.com 5th March 2014
JCK Ltd, the contractors working on the Tholt-Y-Will Road, Sulby have reported an instance of deliberate damage to protective fencing at the work site overnight 3rd and 4th of March 2014. The firm is working in the vicinity of the former Tholt Y Will public house. The firm is repairing a retaining wall at the side of the carriageway. It is clear that the fencing has been damaged so access could be gained to the roadway beyond, as fencing on either side of the worksite was damaged and moved. It has been described an extremely foolhardy and dangerous act.

The incident is being investigated by the Police at Ramsey.

Sgt Andy Kneen said:

“We are treated this as an act of criminal damage, but I would point out that to merely interfere with road furniture without lawful authority (for example road signs, lights, etc) in circumstances likely to cause danger to other road users, could  itself be treated as an arrestable offence. This was an act of gross stupidity given that the area under repair is unlit at night and a “live” worksite. The Contractors are taking extra steps to make the worksite more secure. I would ask anyone who has knowledge of this event to come forward, or contact Crimestoppers."

Crimestoppers (Tel: 0800 555111) is an independent Manx charity established to enable callers to pass information regarding criminal activity anonymously. Crimestoppers is not an agency of the Police. Crimestoppers will never ask callers for any personal details.
