Scoill Duggery

by isleofman.com 6th March 2014

The Young Magicians of Mann and Youth Events are looking forward to an educational and entertaining afternoon at the Youth Arts Centre in Douglas on Sunday 23rd. March, when they stage their 'Scoill Duggery' magic show. It's a show that is suitable for all the family, and as the title suggests it has a school theme. Lexi Watterson, one of the organisers and a member of The Magic Circle told us "We're really looking forward to our annual show this year, particularly as it's our Year of Culture and the island has a rich history of hosting magic shows as well as a vibrant current scene. The Young Magicians of Mann started over 26 years ago and we've never had so many members as we do now. Dynamo has a lot to answer for!"  She added "As a result we have a large cast, including our Headteacher Nathan Hill who has an unusual approach to school discipline, Andrew Martin with his mathematical mysteries, Daniel Quayle - our very own Manx speaking magician - and Juan Moore, who will demonstrate the difference between science and magic by way of a fun-filled routine."

Also taking part are Giles Beaumont, Daniel Cannell, Chris Walmsley, Megan Wilson, Max Workman, Harry Roe, Ethan Wallace, Joe Lewis, Tosh Teare and the  newest members Juan Christian, Jack McLean, Fiona Pierce and Jonathan Williams in their first appearance for the club. The show will include a performing dragon and a number of the wonderful stage illusions for which the Young Magicians of Mann are very well known. Lexi said "The finale of the show will be the 'end of term' celebration, and we can promise that everyone lucky enough to get tickets will be amazed!"

The Youth Arts Centre, one of the fine buildings operated by the Youth Service, has raked seating for 130. Lighting and sound for the show will be in the capable hands of Paul Ellison and Martin MacFarlane, who recently ran a very successful course for would-be young technicians at the Centre. All tickets cost ?5 and are available from the Youth Office, tel. 686057 during office hours or by leaving a message on tel. 878328. Tickets may not be available on the door.
