A raft of recommendations over the future of public service broadcasting will be laid before Tynwald this month.

One of the proposed measures is to introduce legislation that will give Manx Radio a 'permanent existence and status' as the independent public service broadcaster of the Isle of Man, and for Treasury to continue to fund the station to the tune of at least ?850,000 per year.

There's been criticism of the management structure, which 'appears excessive' for a radio station with a turnover of less than ?2million. Cost cutting to programming rather than taking the opportunity to reduce the level of management has been described as disappointing.

Chairman of the select committee on public service broadcasting, Richard Ronan MHK will present 12 recommendations to members of Tynwald, including a proposal that any future licence given by the Communications Commission for public service broadcasting should incorporate a requirement to deliver a certain percentage of locally produced and presented speech.
