The Department of Economic Development is revamping the official entertainment programme for the 2014 Isle of Man TT Races. The packed fortnight festival includes live music, world famous DJ's, stunt shows and family fun days out.
The official entertainment is being spread around the Island this year to enable as many Island residents and visitors as possible to enjoy it.
Minister for Economic Development John Shimmin MHK commented:
‘This year’s programme has been organised in partnership with a number of other event organisers including local Commissioners and private partners.
‘While Douglas will still feature heavily, we want to ensure people are able to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the TT festival across the Island which also reflects the fact that a growing number of visitors are now basing themselves outside of Douglas.
‘We review the programme each year to ensure it is fresh and we feel that the changes to the TT entertainment programme offer a wide range of events in as cost-effective way as possible. So although it has been decided not to support a stunt show on Douglas Promenade, there will be a touring stunt show as well the traditional favourites and an exciting programme of new events taking place over the TT period.’
The fortnight's entertainment will include: Red Arrows displays in Douglas and Ramsey; the fast and furious Beach Race on Douglas Beach; the Ramsey Sprint along the Mooragh Promenade; Peel and Port Erin Fun Days; and the Laxey Bike Festival, organised by local bike club the Moddey Dhoo.
The popular funfair returns along Loch Promenade and the Bushy’s Beer Tent by the Sea Terminal will have live music every evening from Sunday 25th May.
New for TT 2014 will be a new free-to-attend open-air music event in the Villa Marina Gardens featuring local bands and chat shows. The three nights of entertainment will culminate in the PokerStars Closing Party on Senior Race Day including the spectacular fireworks display over Douglas Bay, PokerStars’ Senior TT Race prize-giving ceremony and interviews with the leading riders.
This year sees the introduction of a touring stunt show, replacing the previous action on Douglas Promenade, with some of the Island's main towns playing host to the Monster Energy supported activity.
Also new for this year are the exclusive '38th Mile' Club Nights' at the Villa Marina's Colonnade Suite with live music by Formula 1 icon Eddie Jordan's band - 'Eddie and the Robbers'.
In addition to the outdoor concerts, the Villa Marina's Royal Hall has a headline band and a varied programme of events including talk shows, stand-up comedy and live music from up and coming stars as well as a comprehensive film programme.
