Police update on fatal road traffic collision

Police have confirmed that the investigation, has continued this morning, into the circumstances of the collision on the Switchback Road in Peel which claimed the life of the 14 year old girl on Saturday. They states that although formal identification has not yet taken place they believe the girl’s identity to be Lucia Porter as has been widely reported.

All persons involved in the collision have now been discharged from Hospital.
 
They also confirmed that a number of people have been arrested in investigating the offence of causing death by dangerous driving. These people are currently in custody at Douglas Police Headquarters where investigations continue.
 
The Constabulary has worked from an early stage with other Government agencies in this far reaching enquiry to ensure that support is given to those who need it. A Family Liaison Officer is working closely with the family and supporting them.
 
Having liaised with the family the Constabulary is releasing this picture of Lucia and her mother, Mrs Julie Porter has released the following statement:

“Our family is left completely distraught after Lucia’s untimely death.
 
We are overwhelmed by the messages of condolence, flowers & the kindness of the people on the Isle of Man who have reached out to us and offered their support.
 
She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.”
 
The Constabulary would like to thanks the partner Emergency Services and other agencies, both government and voluntary, for their help and cooperation in this investigation and for their help in providing support.
 
The Constabulary continue their enquiries and wishes to appeal to any witnesses to a white vehicle driving in the west of the Island on the evening of Saturday 8th March 2014.
