QEII students clean beaches after the storms

by isleofman.com 12th March 2014

Following the recent storms, five year 11 students from Queen Elizabeth II High School have been clearing rubbish from Niarbyl and Glen Maye beaches. This was part of an Environmental Module for their ASDAN Personal Development Programme.

Their challenge was to undertake a project that would help them appreciate their natural environment. The students recovered over 450 plastic bottles as well as a lot of rope and polystyrene. Many of the bottles had been blown up on to the grassy banks at Niarbyl. Over 40 kilos of plastic were recovered from the beaches. The group then analysed the number and types of materials collected and produced written reports for their portfolios.
