Senior Manx Grand Prix Saturday

by isleofman.com 12th March 2014

At the recent Manx Grand Prix Newcomers weekend, a number of the prospective competitors for this year’s races which are being held between 16th & 29th August and plan to ride in the Senior Manx Grand Prix expressed their concern regarding the postponement or even worse the cancellation of the ‘blue-riband’ race as happened in 2013 – the first time in the races 90 year history.

Club Chairman, Harvey Garton gave the reassuring news that after discussions with the Marshals Association and the Medical Director that full cover would be available to organise and run the Senior Manx Grand Prix on Saturday 30th August should it be necessary to delay the premier event of the Festival of Motorcycling from its scheduled day, Friday 29th August.

Phil Taubman, Clerk of the Course reiterated the Chairman’s remarks, saying it was also one of the reasons that only the Senior race will be held on the Friday, in the hope that if the weather conditions prove to be against racing a suitable window will be available for a later than scheduled start of the race.

Manx Grand Prix Race days are: Monday 25th August – Newcomers Race; Wednesday 27th August – Junior Manx Grand Prix and the SuperTwin/Lightweight Manx Grand Prix (run concurrently) and Friday 29th August – Senior Manx Grand Prix. All races will be over four laps of the Mountain Course a race distance of 150.92-miles.
