It was the Isle of Man Darts Open last weekend at the Villa Marina with the biggest names in world BDO darts on display for all to see and meet. Indeed one of our very own academy players went there for the day, Toby Caulfiend, and had a day he won't forget for a while.
Toby got some great tips; most of them coming from Scotland international Ross Montgomery, he also spent time with world champion Scotty Waites and even got to throw a leg with multi world champion Martin Adams.
Whilst he was busy trying to embarrass Martin another big name in dart,s Karl from darts firm A180 darts, was handing over a goodie bag to one of our coaches so we all at Isle of Man Darts Academy (IOMDA) would like to thank Karl and the team for their very generousity.
Week two of the IOMDA and although we only had 15 players, one less than last week, we had 7 new faces most of which were girls. The majority of the children missing this week was down to illness so I hope they all recover quickly as we missed you.
We concentrated this week on the basics and etiquette of the game and we got them used to match play in readiness for next Saturday's first, and one of the biggest competitions, that will be on our calendar, The Manx Masters.
Entries on the day Saturday 22nd March, signing on 2-2.30pm with toeing the oche at 3pm. The trophies have been donated very gratefully by one of our own, David Clucas, and also there will be vouchers donated by Ted Fick Plumbing and Heating.
