Arts centre taking legal advice over legacy

by isleofman.com 14th March 2014
The Directors of a local arts centre say they will be seeking legal advice regarding a massive legacy left to the venue by a man believed to be responsible for a string of sex attacks against children.
It was reported yesterday (Fri) that former teacher and scout leader Chris Dobson, who comes from Essex, had left ?100,000 to the Erin Arts Centre on the Island, as well as smaller amounts to other local organisations and individuals.
Mr Dobson’s crimes came to light after his death in 2012 when child pornography was found in his Essex home.
The bequests were made in Mr Dobson's will which was read in January this year, but it's now believed his half-million pound estate may face legal action after a police probe uncovered a number of victims.
A statement from the Erin Arts Centre this morning reads, "This news is obviously deeply disturbing and, conscious of the sensitivities associated with this legacy, the Directors of the Erin Arts Centre will be seeking legal advice as to what options might be available.
Whilst the Directors were aware of a potential legacy from the estate of the late Mr Dobson, there has been no official confirmation of any amounts involved."
