Legal queries on Tynwald question paper

by isleofman.com 15th March 2014

There is a distinct legal flavour to a number of Tynwald questions for next week.
North Douglas MHK John Houghton has queries for the treasury minister and the acting attorney general on the presence of advocates in small claims court.
Meanwhile, East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell wants to know when the Sentencing Bill will be brought forward to the branches, and whether it will provide for changes to the structure of juries.
And Onchan MHK Peter Karran will ask the acting attorney general about people suspended from the AG's Chambers and whether he plans to seek an amendment allowing juries to return majority verdicts in the Isle of Man.
In light of the revelations many Island schools are importing their milk and bread, Michael MHK Alf Cannan will ask the chief minister and treasury minister about procurement policies and contracts.
He will also ask the education minister if head teachers support devolved financial management.
South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft will ask the acting attorney general if he has found anyone able to supply legal opinion on the Sefton Group who isn't conflicted.
And Onchan MHK Zac Hall wants the chief minister to make a statement on his trip to China.
