There could be an interesting experiment in Tynwald this July if the Lord Bishop gets his way.
Robert Paterson wants members to try out time-limited speeches.
He is going to make the bid during Tynwald this month.
If approved it would mean anyone making a statement or moving a report would have 20 minutes, there would be 15 minutes to move a motion, and a maximum of 10 minutes to speak to it or make an amendment.
Answering a question would be limited to five minutes.
Bishop Robert says his motion was prompted by a debate about dustcarts which took over an hour but achieved very little.
He says an hour of Tynwald's time costs thousands of pounds if you also take into account the salaries of civil servants.
He feels this experiment could help to focus politicians' minds.
If the motion is approved, the experimental time-limits would be for the July Tynwald sitting.
The results would be reviewed by the Standing Orders Committee who would be asked to report back by November.
