Wind farm hearings today

by isleofman.com 18th March 2014
Proposals for wind farm developments in the Irish Sea will be debated before the UK’s planning inspectorate today.
It’s hosting two hearings at the Villa Marina assessing a range of issues, including sea and air navigation.
Both will deal with plans by Dong Energy.
And it’s the cumulative impact of current and proposed wind farm schemes in the north east zone of the Irish Sea which is causing concern.
This morning, representatives from Dong Energy, the Manx government and Ronaldsway Airport will present their views, while the Chamber of Commerce, Steam Packet and passenger watchdog Travelwatch are this afternoon expected to raise concerns about the impact such schemes could have on ferry routes, with the possibility of increased crossing times.
There are currently proposals to double the size of Walney - the offshore wind farm situated off the coast of Cumbria – as well as to create a 2.2 gigawatt wind farm between Anglesey and the Isle of Man.
The first hearing at 10am deals with air navigation followed by a 2pm session on sea navigation.
Doors open half an hour before.
