Home affairs and police react to inquest recommendations

by isleofman.com 20th March 2014
The Department of Home Affairs and the Island's police force have released statements in the wake of the Michael Davidson inquest verdict.
Mr Davidson died in March 2012 while in prison custody.
Yesterday, a jury returned a verdict of accidental death, but said neglect had been a contributing factor.
The cause of death was drug toxicity, due to a combination of prescribed drugs - methadone, diazepam and dihydrocodeine.
A list of fifteen recommendations was put forward by the coroner of inquests as a result of this.
Both the department and the police have expressed their condolences to Mr Davidson's friends and family.
The department says it respects the jury's finding, has already undertaken a review of procedures, and will take steps to address the coroner's recommendations.
The police say the same, adding they take their responsibility and duty of care to detainees seriously.
Both statements say they will not be commenting further at this time, with the police adding they will not be available for interview.
