The Children’s Centre is appealing for fundraisers to take part in one of the UK’s most picturesque running events in July. The Lakeland Trails Marathon and Half Marathon has been described by Runners' World magazine as ‘the most scenic trail Marathon in Britain’.
It takes place on July 6 with a spectacular route in the heart of the Lake District – and it’s only a one hour drive from the port of Heysham for any Manx runners travelling by ferry. Signing up for the run with The Children’s Centre means that the charity’s team of events experts take out all the hassle because they arrange travel, accommodation and event entry.
Lisa Motley, Endurance Events Fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, said:
“The marathon and half-marathon are split into two categories. The ‘challenge’ category is for the less competitive runner or fitness walkers with a time limit of 8hrs and 4hrs respectively, while the ‘race’ category is for more competitive runners with time limits of 6hrs and 3hrs respectively. There is a festival atmosphere at the start and finish with race commentary, live music and food and drink available. It is a well marked and marshalled course on footpaths and bridleways with plenty of feed and drink stations en route. With it being so easy to get to from the Isle of Man we are sure it will appeal to many Manx runners, but we would urge them to sign-up as soon as possible as places are limited.”
Runners who sign-up with The Children’s Centre pay a ?60 registration fee and then have to raise a further ?250 from sponsorship. All funds raised go towards The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects Mobex, Out2Play, Child Contact Centre, Community Development and the Community Farm, which all do great work for families and children in communities across the Island.
Starting and finishing at Coniston Hall Landing Point on the shores of Coniston Water, the Lakeland Trails Marathon involves a complete circuit of Coniston Water and takes in Tarn Hows and Beacon Tarn. There are also some spectacular panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.
