Swift third, Cavendish fifth at Milan-San Remo

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2014
Mark Cavendish had to settle for fifth place in the Milan-San Remo today.
Katusha rider Alexander Kristoff managed to pull away from the bunch in the closing stages to become the first Norwegian to win the one-day race, which is one of the 'Spring Classics'.
Fabien Cancellara was second, Isle of Man resident Ben Swift third, and Juan Jose Lobato Del Valle fourth, just ahead of Cav.
Once again the riders had to contend with poor conditions - heavy rain, and even some hail at times - although nothing like last year's snow.
