Douglas’ promotion bid from South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One looks to be all but over following their 22-26 home defeat by fellow chasers Anselmians.
Liam King and Carl Markl-Ferns both crossed for first half tries for Douglas with Bryn Snellgrove converting one and adding a penalty to give his side a 15-10 half-time lead.
However, a poor second half display let Douglas down and, despite Christian Brew crossing for a try which the reliable Snellgrove converted, Anselmians were able to snatch the game.
The defeat takes Douglas down to fifth place - some 14 points off the promotion places and unlikely to seal a second successive promotion, although they do have a game in hand.
They meet Northwich at Port-e-Chee on April 5 and will look to close the gap but are now relying on their rivals slipping up.
In Division Two, relegation is hanging over Ramsey who suffered their second biggest defeat of the season at Liverpool Collegiate.
They crashed to a 95-7 defeat as Collegiate flexed their muscles to move top after long time leaders Manchester Medics went down to a shock defeat at Orrell.
The only score in the game for Ramsey came from pace man Peter Richardson who crossed for a try which Daniel Bonwick converted.
Ramsey now must focus on their remaining three games as they still have a slim chance of avoiding the drop.
Vagabonds' poor finish to the season saw them lose 33-5 away at Marple and record their fourth successive league defeat as they dropped to seventh place in the standings.
Sam Liver crossed for Vagas’ only try and they must now build on that as they regroup to face Collegiate at Ballafletcher next Saturday.
Vagas Ladies lost 68-5 away at champions Sheffield to end their run in Women’s Championship North Division Two.
Their only score came courtesy of a Corrina Daly try as Sheffield finished the season with a 100 per cent record and the title.
