Court battle for businessman and former legal advisor

by isleofman.com 25th March 2014

Two prominent figures from the Island’s business world are facing each other in court in a case due to last almost a month.

Business tycoon Albert Gubay and his former legal advisor and ‘right hand man’ Peter Willers are suing each other for money related to Mr Willers’ dismissal in 2009.

Mr Willers claims the multimillionaire owes him more than ?5 million he says he was promised under verbal agreements.

Walter Wannenburgh, on behalf of Mr Willers, said that figure included a share of the money from the Mount Murray development.

Advocates appearing for both Mr Gubay and Mr Willers opened their cases in the High Court this morning.

Mr Wannenburgh said it was a ‘sad case’, and Mr Willers is entitled to 10% of the profits from a future sale of Mount Murray.

He also claims Mr Gubay promised him two million pounds from other agreements, a share the profits of a new company and the proceeds from the Total Fitness gym chain.

Mr Gubay refutes the claims and his advocate Alan Gough said the case rests on whether Mr Willers has enforceable contracts.

The case continues.
