Broadway’s Romeo and Juliet coming to The Studio Theatre

by isleofman.com 26th March 2014

The Studio Theatre are delighted to announce Romeo and Juliet is joining the Live Screening programme. This is the first production to be screened from Broadway and will be shown on Tuesday 1st April at 7.00pm.

Prejudice. Anger. Betrayal. And the chance that true love could actually conquer all. It could only be the greatest love story of all time…Filmed live on Broadway and starring the British actor Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) and two-time Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad, this dazzling new production of Romeo and Juliet is a modern take on one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays. Staged on Broadway for the first time in 36 years, director David Leveaux brings a dynamic energy and contemporary setting to his interpretation of this eternally tragic tale of star-crossed lovers.  With 2014 marking the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Broadway’s Romeo and Juliet will appeal both to the regular theatre-goer and those coming to Shakespeare for the very first time.

The production was originally filmed live at the Richard Rogers Theatre, Broadway on November 27th 2013 and has now been released for screenings worldwide.

This production forms part of the season of Live Screenings from the Studio Theatre which has included The National Theatre’s productions of Coriolanus and War Horse and still has coming up King Lear directed by Sam Mendes and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. For more information on the season please email bhsstudio@online.sch.im.

Tickets are available through the Villa Gaiety Box Office, The Welcome Centre as well as online, at the Villa Gaiety website and on 600555.
