A charity poker event held recently at the Claremont in Douglas has raised a whopping ?5,000 for the Hospice at Home Isle of Man - Diana Princess of Wales Care at Home Trust.

The evening attracted more than 75 poker enthusiasts ranging from complete beginners to experienced players. It was kindly organised by Microgaming and the Claremont on behalf of the Trust, and with the support of Cabaret Casino and ELS.

Lloyds Bank’s Chris Blake, the winner of the event’s inaugural annual Charity Poker Challenge Cup, auctioned a Brazilian football shirt signed by the famous player Kaka, which had been donated by Initial Rewards, and raised ?260.

Ron Spencer, chairman of the Trust, commented: “The charity poker evening far exceeded expectations in terms of support, participation, and just how much fun was had during the evening, not to mention the huge amount raised.  This is an early boost for the Trust, and will make a significant difference to patients at home who will benefit from the care of our Diana nurses.”
