'Strong lobby' for increase in minimum wage

by isleofman.com 27th March 2014

A review of the minimum wage has been launched. The government is keen to hear from people who are on the minimum wage or slightly above it as, it states, there is 'currently a strong lobby for a significant increase'.

It wants those who are earning around the minimum to give examples of weekly income and expenditure.

The existing rate is ?6.40 per hour for workers aged 18 and over which is 10p an hour below the UK minimum rate. Economic Development Minister John Shimmin said: 'The minimum wage represents an important part of Government’s aim to protect the vulnerable and make work pay. I hope that the Miimum Wage Committee will receive a great many responses from interested parties.'

Anyone wanting to contribute to the review should email dedemployment@gov.im or write to to The Secretary to the Minimum Wage Committee, Nivison House, Prospect Hill, Douglas, IM1 1ET. The closing date for submissions is Friday April 25.
