Department of Health and Social Care to hold Southern Information Day

by isleofman.com 28th March 2014
The new Department of Health and Social Care will host a free exhibition of health and social care services on Tuesday 1 April at the Royal British Legion Hall in Port Erin.

Southern Information Day, in partnership with the Older Person’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS) and the Community Social Work Team, aims to provide practical advice and information to help older people access the support they need to remain in their own homes, improve quality of life and enable them to lead as fulfilling and independent life as possible.

Minister for Health and Social Care, Hon Howard Quayle MHK, said: “Collaboration between the Department’s services and the private and voluntary sectors is vital for the delivery of the wide range of health and social care services across the Island. All these services work together to enable older people to lead as fulfilling and independent life as possible with the correct level of support in place. Many of these services are being particularly highlighted by this Southern Information Day in Port Erin. I thank the Port Erin Branch of the Royal British Legion for facilitating the Department to promote this event by providing the venue and refreshments.”

The Southern Information Day will showcase Department services such as Occupational Therapy, Live Well Stay Well, Memory Clinic, Home Care as well as the Treasury Benefits Section coming together with representatives from other private and voluntary organisations, such as the Southern Community Initiatives ‘Hub Club’, Manx Decaf, Manx Blind Welfare Society, to raise awareness of the range of support and advice available in the south of the island for older people and their carers.

Karen Howard, Older Person’s Community Social Worker, said: “The Southern Information Day will provide expertise, support and advice all under one roof in an informal setting and also provide valuable networking opportunities for the many different agencies involved. Please come down to Port Erin on 1 April to visit the free exhibition and find out how you and your family can be supported by the many services and organisations in your local area.”

The event takes place between 10am and 5pm, with free admission. There will also be light refreshments with all proceeds being split between the Royal British Legion and Manx DECAF Dementia Cafe.
