Students prepare for tall ship adventure

by isleofman.com 30th March 2014
Forty youngsters from Island high schools are preparing for the challenge of a lifetime, when they set sail aboard an ocean-going tall ship next weekend.

The Year 9 students representing all five secondary schools, fought hard to win their places on the 200-foot brig Stavros S Niarchos.

She departs Liverpool next Saturday and over six days they'll learn sea-faring skills, work as a team and take turns on gruelling watch shifts through the day and night.

The venture organised by the Tall Ships Youth Trust aims to help youngsters gain independence, initiative and responsibility.
