A celebration of the partnership between Barclays Wealth and Investment Management and The Children’s Centre raised more than ?3,000 for the Isle of Man charity.
The gala dinner, at the Villa Marina in Douglas, was an opportunity to reflect on what was achieved in 2013, when The Children’s Centre was one of the charities of the year nominated by Barclays in the Isle of Man, and for the charity to explain more about its work.
Last year, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management raised around ?90,000 for The Children’s Centre, plus employees dedicated hundreds of hours of time volunteering to support the charity’s projects.
During the gala dinner, guests were invited to make donations and take part in a raffle. The amount raised on the night, ?1,510, was matched pound-for-pound by Barclays to bring the total to ?3,020.
Shaun Phillips, head of Private Clients, Intermediaries and International business at Barclays, also addressed the audience, which included Government Ministers, business leaders and Barclays Wealth and Investment Management clients.
Mr Phillips, who is responsible for the UK and offshore jurisdictions including the Isle of Man, talked about the strategic work the organisation is doing to review its business, establishing core values, engaging with stakeholders and building forward momentum for the longer term through the ‘Transform’ programme. He also talked about the importance of Citizenship, the renewed commitment to supporting local communities, promoting growth in society and ensuring the needs of stakeholders are recognised.
Mr Phillips offered an overview of the dedicated community-based work done by employees in the Isle of Man, from individual fundraising efforts to team projects, and from specific mentoring to programmes aimed at supporting young people as they prepare for work. He noted that in 2013, Isle of Man employees had devoted more than 3,000 hours to community projects and more than ?175,000 had been raised for charity.
John Knight, Chief Executive Office of The Children’s Centre, explained the work of the charity, and what had been achieved with the support and assistance of Barclays.
Stuart Nelson, Head of Corporate and Intermediary Banking, Isle of Man, said: ‘The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management to fully explain what our priorities and goals are, especially in terms of playing a full and active role in our community.
‘It was fascinating, and very rewarding, to see what had been achieved by The Children’s Centre with our support, and why work like that is so important to Barclays and all our employees.’
He added: ‘I’m also delighted we were able to give additional support to the valuable work this charity does thanks to the generosity of our guests at the gala dinner.’
