Isle of Man Bank is to sponsor the Manx Operatic Society’s production of the classic musical Little Shop of Horrors, which is being staged at the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas, from June 13-21.
The hit show, a spoof of fifties sci-fi movies, became one of the longest running off Broadway productions of all time and centres on a singing, man-eating plant and its craving for fresh blood.
Little Shop of Horrors became a household name around the world after it was turned into a movie, starring Steve Martin, Rick Moranis and James Belushi.
Isle of Man Bank Head of Community Investment John Lindon said the bank was delighted to be supporting the Manx Operatic Society again, having sponsored previous shows.
He said: ‘The Manx Operatic Society’s track record of putting on excellent shows speaks for itself and we are more than happy to support Little Shop of Horrors.
’My colleagues and I can’t wait to see a man-eating plant on the stage at the Gaiety Theatre! We know that once again the audiences will love what the society does.’
The hit show is known for its catchy music, quirky characters and some classic comedy – along with a love story for good measure – as the man-eating plant grows with each feed until it takes over the stage.
Anthony Williams is directing the production. He is back in the Island and with the society again after a break of several years.
The lead roles are taken by Dean Callow, who plays Seymour, Tracey McCann as love interest Audrey, John Short as flower shop owner Mr Mushnik, and David Lyons in the sadistic dentist role made famous by Steve Martin.
Mike Bonner voices the man-eating plant, Audrey 2, and other roles include Kate Cowley as Chrystal, Joe Clucas as Chiffon and Alice Quayle as Ronnette.
A demonic child also makes an appearance and will be played by different children on alternate nights.
Society chairman John Short said: ‘This promises to be a special show that we hope audiences will thoroughly enjoy.
‘As ever, we would like to thank Isle of Man Bank for their generous sponsorship once again and their invaluable support, enabling us to bring this blockbuster of a family show to the magnificent Gaiety Theatre.’
Tickets for the show (June 13-21) start from ?18.36 for adults and there are concessions for children, senior citizens and groups. Contact the Gaiety box office on 600555.
