The A3 Foxdale Road was closed this afternoon after telegraph poles in the area were found to be on fire.
The closure was between Mines Road and the Hope crossroads as there were fears that the poles could fall on to the road.
Police diverted traffic in the area while firemen dealt with the blaze.
Around 3pm it was announced that the road between the Hope and Ballanass would remain closed until around midnight to allow emergency repair work can be carried out.
The cause of the fire hasn't been confirmed at this stage
