Pupils at Bunscoill Rhumsaa have shown their green-fingered skills at this year’s Ramsey Town Commissioners’ bulb-growing challenge.
Blue house was revealed as Best House in School overall but as Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Captain Nigel Malpass told pupils when presenting their certificates: ‘Every one of you is to be congratulated. You went to a great deal of time and effort, not only to look after the bulbs and grow them into fine plants, but also to decorate the pots so attractively.’
Each year the Commissioners provide the school with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The bulbs are grown by the pupils at home then brought to school for judging in early spring.
The awards completed, Captain Malpass said: ‘Every year – and the Commission has been holding this competition for 34 years now - it is very encouraging to see how dedicated the children are in nurturing their bulbs. There’s clearly some healthy competition between houses and it’s always a pleasure to recognise the pupils’ efforts by presenting the certificates, one of the engagements I especially enjoy.’
