Beach bins proving to be huge success

by isleofman.com 15th April 2014

An initiative to get walkers to clear up a local beauty spot is proving to be a big success.
The first 'Beach Buddies Big Beach Bin' was placed at Glen Wyllin beach earlier this month.
The idea is for people to take a bag from it and fill it with rubbish before returning it at the end of their walk.
Less than two weeks later the bin is already over half full with a variety of plastic items as well as fishing gear and ropes.
Beach Buddies regularly holds weekend clean-up sessions across the Island with the help of volunteers.
Speaking on Talking Heads, charity founder Bill Dale said the beach bin had proved so popular, they have got permission to put them at access points to beaches across the Island.
